Comtech Telecommunications Corporation (Comtech) provides advanced technological communications solutions for the public and private sector. More specifically, Comtech provides mission critical and high performance transmission technologies that host emergency responder communications for several state governments. In 2021, Flinn Ferguson was engaged by Comtech to find a solution their upcoming lease expiration of a 54,748 square foot West Regional headquarters facility in Seattle. In addition to office space, Comtech’s facility in Seattle includes roughly 15,000 square feet of data center space that Comtech had built and updated inside of their office building over a 15 year period. Given the data center component, Flinn Ferguson Cresa engaged a best-in-class third party mission critical consultant and conducted a search for alternatives for the mission critical environment in conjunction with searching for office space. During the process we also engaged a leading Workplace Strategy consultant to understand Comtech’s office space needs given their hybrid/remote work habits. Through the process we gained a thorough understanding of all timelines and costs associated with relocating the data center and office space in order for Comtech to make an informed decision for their long term space. The result was a new 10 year lease extension in the current building. Comtech was able to reduce their office footprint by ~60% and their overall footprint by ~40%, for a total of 32,540 square feet.
